Grandpa’s Fishing Bag

My grandpa’s canvas fishing creel. Throughout my childhood fishing trips up on Mt Hood, this was the bag lent to me while fishing at Camp Creek. The small stocked rainbows couldn’t resist a salmon egg baited hook. Conveniently, the jar that held the eggs fit perfectly in that front left pocket.

Inspired by products of past generation, to create for the next.

I’ve always been intrigued by the old canvas fishing creels and their distinct shape derived from the purpose to hold your catch. I think that’s where a lot of the beauty falls in the product design we’ve come to love and know in fishing gear. A strict focus on utility and function; the seemingly odd shape or placed pockets are in fact very intentional.

Based on a style I grew up using, I created a new version with the intent to use both on and beyond the stream. Keeping the integrity of the original version, the new result is the heavily spec’d up, Tactical Canvas Creel. Made in the UK out of a heavyweight 360g Cotton Duck X-Pac X10 fabric.
